SCHOOL DISTRICT: KEARNEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
  SCHOOL BUILDING: MEADOWLARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Description

Description provided by the school building for 2001-2002

Meadowlark is the 1st year round school in Nebraska, providing a 2 track calendar. Optional track students attend school for 45 days and are out for 15 days. An intersession during those 3 weeks offers theme specific classes to enhance learning and appeal to student interests. These are tuition-based, voluntary classes. A 6 week summer vacation is provided. Conventional students attend school in the traditional 9 week quarter system with 3 months vacation. Meadowlark studied the effect of schedule on learning, considering memory and learning loss over time, and found that continuous learning promotes optimum learning and recall. Creating a year round education supported by partnerships with social, economic, and educational resources, provides better learning and retention experiences for all students. Meadowlark has multiple uses by many community organizations. The school staff welcomes you to Meadowlark--Kearney's newest elementary and 1st year round education school in Nebraska
